Projects

In addition to being a Visual Artist and an Objects Conservator, I am a Ceramics Instructor, a Designer, an Organic Gardiner, a Home Renovator and a Proprietor of an Airbnb. I have developed a sense for how to approach new skills with efficiency and resourcefulness, and as a result no mountain is too high.

The Circle

The Circle construction began in 2021, discussions and plans were laid to build an artist studio and greenhouse out of environmentally sound and recycled materials. As both the studio and greenhouse require water, it was decided to incorporate a roof water collection system and cistern. Materials used are largely those used in my own concrete sculpture constructions; rebar, recycled styrofoam blocks, and foamcrete, a distinct form of concrete made from mixing cement, sand and ground waste foam. Now in 2024, it is nearing completetion with great thanks to Andrew McKay for his wonderful leadership and wealth of information, my son Calvin Sheasby for his great skills and dedication, and to my partiner Martin Bluethner for his unbelieveable support and hands-on knowlege and abilities. The four of us have bounced ideas, re-designed plans, brainstormed problems, cut foam, welded steel, heaved cement, and put much blood and sweat into this project. With it’s completion I hope to be able to share socially what it represents; co-existing in harmony with the natural world around us.

The Clay Project

The Clay Project started as a discussion between visual artist Beth McCubbin and aboriginal youth worker Kateri Miles, from Minwaashin Lodge in Vanier, Ottawa. The intent of the project is to offer free clay workshops to Ottawa's Indigenous Community, to celebrate Community through the creation of a public artwork, and as a positive way to be involved in the Canada 150 celebrations. The mural is accompanied by a plaque to celebrate all Indigenous Peoples. It distinguishes this time in history as Year One of Reconciliation in Canada and commemorates our present and future as a Proud Strong Diverse Nation. The mural is composed of 96 tiles made by over 75 participants.

Project is installed at St-Laurent Complex, 525 Coté St, Ottawa

I chronicaled this project on a facebook page as well as in The Clay Project blog.

Design and Residential

I have repaired, restored, and redesigned four turn-of-the-century houses to incorporate modern lifestyles. With each house project careful attention is paid to the original intent and design of the building; early design elements are maintained and recreated to match the original structures.
